Hello, I decided to challenge myself with a neck through 12 string semi hollow telecaster style guitar,
the wood has been acclimatising in the garage for a few weeks now, but I decided to make a full scale prototype first out of pine, this is because if there is anything I don't like on it I'll just change it on the final guitar and I can go through the process without having to worry about mistakes, I have two headstock designs and can't decide yet which one I prefer.
so I'll start it off with posting a few photos, I found the methods taught by mark really useful especially the neck taper + headstock pattern and headstock thickness jig.
here it is so far!

winging the next bit.....

they're not glued on yet, just testing it out, on the real one I'll probably cut the neck less agressively, but that's exactly why I'm making this first, other than that really like the shape.
I did quite a bit today, including planing in a break angle into the body otherwise the action would have never been right, I glued the sawn off neck piece back on because I need to carve where the neck meets the body again in the right place, there will be about 8mm removed as well for the capped top which will also be scraps of pine in this case, it's getting quite complex and I need a break, here are a few photos.

the top is almost done, I used some hot hide glue to glue on a couple of extra pieces to extend the width, using a rub joint technique, I think carving the neck is going to be next, looking forward to that part the most!

I finally carved the neck, it was very enjoyable, so theraputic!

I mostly used a spokeshave and carving knife for the transitions volute and the heel, I'll do a bit more carving once it's glued together, for a first neck I'm quite happy with it, it's subtle but there's a C profile near the 1st fret and towards the high frets it's closer to a V shape, I did it all just with feeling and taking off a bit at a time until I was happy with it.
