RE: Natural - Satin finish @ndakota I quite like the white colour of the pine, the other side is brown though. Attachment : 20201113_165902.jpg |

RE: Natural - Satin finish @robin Good finish, Danish Oil is my favourite and good point about the cloths. I know a violin maker who burned his workshop down by throwing wet cloths in a bin full of wood shavings |

RE: First New Electric for a While What’s this in the post - a tube for a tube. Ok it’s just my new rasp for body carving from the Bailey workshop. Great timing Carol. Attachment : 4A0EE014-49AF-4522-82F5-F8AB25403B09.jpeg |

RE: First New Electric for a While @koendb Yes it’s hard to find a balance that feels good and a neck that’s too thin can be hard to play I find, as well as being unstable. |

RE: In the beginning we mark the nut... @rocknroller912 Absolutely, I think a lot of what I’ve done will be used again though 🙂 At least it will if I have my way 😬 The effort for most jobs done well goes into the preparation... |

RE: In the beginning we mark the nut... @tej Its always difficult making a one off design because a lot of time is spent refining the process then it’s never used again. |

RE: In the beginning we mark the nut... @rocknroller912 I like that idea too, it does however presume I’ve got the sides even 🤔😉 I’ve got to remake the neck pocket template anyway after so will make it long this time, I thin... |

RE: In the beginning we mark the nut... @tej I get your idea now. I usually align the neck with a straight edge along each side of the neck and make a pencil mark on the body from the outside of the straight edge. Then I measure the distanc... |

RE: In the beginning we mark the nut... @rocknroller912 exactly the same as the one I’ve made but the back of the template would go to just before the edge of the body past the bridge. If I align the centre lines on the pattern and body at ... |

RE: In the beginning we mark the nut... @rocknroller912 Thinking about alignment I’m contemplating extending the template to the length of the body pretty much so that way I’ll get the smallest margin of error with alignment, in theory! |

RE: In the beginning we mark the nut... @tej looks like you are getting the hang of guitar building now, making your own jigs. In the past I’ve used a neck template that was slightly bigger than the pocket template so it doesn’t quite fit i... |

RE: Truss rod terrors. @tej Yeah good idea to mark the chanel on the back before carve. I'll certainly do that. Then it's deep breath time and carve that neck 😀 |

RE: Truss rod terrors. @hursty just measure it so you know where you’re at when carving. If it helps you can always mark a line before you carve the back of the neck so you know where the channel is. |

RE: Truss rod terrors. Hey @tej Many thanks for the information buddy. Good to know it's not a disaster yet for me. I'll just be very careful in the carve. Cheers Paul. |
