RE: 60's Telecaster build - Which pickups?

I hate to say "stewm*c", but they have nut seating files. I bought one way back when (when £1=$2). Attachment : image.png Use that carefully and the bottom of the nut slot should be flat, and ...

RE: 60's Telecaster build - Which pickups?

@keondb If you need to make a curved slot try making a curved scraper to match a curved bottom nut then scrape it front to back.

RE: 60's Telecaster build - Which pickups?

@keondb Ok I think I picked you up wrong. Do you check the nut to see if it’s flat, a lot of new ones are not. I use a thin chisel as a scraper to get the slot flat and check for rocking with a small ...

RE: 60's Telecaster build - Which pickups?

Some nuts are curved on the bottom - get a flat one. It’s better to make the slot a bit tight and then scrape the nut to fit. @rocknroller912 That was what I meant. The slot needs to be flat too. It ...

RE: 60's Telecaster build - Which pickups?

@koendb I use the same set up as for cutting the fret slots but with a tapered fret board it’s more difficult to get it square. Clamps as well as tape can be used but the tightening will move everythi...

Mark was demonstrating recently how to fit position marker dots and showed how to double check before drilling with two different ways. This would be a good thing to work on. Thats one of the next jo...

RE: 60's Telecaster build - Which pickups?

The saw needs to be quite tight in the rollers or it can go off 90 deg. I’m assuming you have the fretboard stuck with double sided tape to the metal scale. I also use wooded wedges between the wood a...

RE: 60's Telecaster build - Which pickups?

@koendb Looks like you have the same type of metal fret cutting jig as me. The saw needs to be quite tight in the rollers or it can go off 90 deg. I’m assuming you have the fretboard stuck with double...

@cheesewhisk Is a guitar making video game a possibility. Virtual reality might help us to get all the mistakes out of the way.

If you're going to do the job properly, you should also make a set of templates for the carved top, because that means you can do most of the carve with the router too (you create a series of shelfs -...

I've got the templates @Boo, if you want to make yourself a LP-alike? If I've got some suitably sized MDF, I could make a set of copies for the body, cavities, etc. @tv101 Oh that would be good if yo...

@tv101 I probably would have worked it out eventually, I’m a bit rusty after having a long lay off from guitar stuff and using power tools. Mostly I’ve been using hand tools.
