but it is 3/4 inch thick(20mm). Is that thick enough for strenght and stability? I've made most of my guitars with 20 mm neck blanks, so I don't think there is any problem.

That looks good Clinton. You can get very narrow masking tape that model makers use, that might be good to mask off the fret wires while you lacquer the fretboard.
