RE: New build Today was good, got the fret markers done, then frets in and finally side dots. The new tools are helping a lot, hardly any levelling required after fretting due to getting everything so straight and ... |

RE: New build @tv101 Use the tubing, cut teeth in, drill it in then cut it off and file flush. Then start again, cut teeth, drill etc. That might work |

RE: New build @tv101 yeh alumium tubing off ebay, 6mm with 4mm internal diameter. I also got smaller stuff for the side dots, had to sand a 2.5mm drill bit down to about 2.4mm seeing I could only find imperial but ... |

RE: New build Trying out something different for fret markers and side dots, although I'll need a 3/32 dril bit for the side dots as they're imperial. Just used a 2.5mm to try out. Attachment : 20230213_16225... |

RE: Thickness sander? @swepri oh god yeh, I know exactly what you mean! Lol I find my big stanley no 7 really haleps with that, I find that difficult with smaller planes unless it's a big flat board. Like a guitar top, I... |

RE: Thickness sander? @swepri I bought a fairly cheap set of diamond stones off amazon, now I can plane highly figured wood and all sorts with no tear out. I seem to be able to get them really sharp which makes a big diffe... |

RE: Next project - a rebuild @tv101 had an idea last night, you could do a shallow carve so there's like 1mm of top around the egde then add binding, that would hide the fact the top was thin! |

RE: Thickness sander? @tv101 I put mine through the planer thicknesser but obviously sanding is even smoother. But yeh, lots of people use that set up on various small pieces with good success, me, think I'll just use t... |

RE: Fretboard radius @tv101 the thing that gets me is a compound radius, they're often 12 to 16 but there's so little in it it seems a bit pointless. I think between a 7.5 or 9 and a 16 you'd notice it more but those thre... |

RE: Fretboard radius @robin a tighter radius is meant to be more comfortable for chords but if bending a string doing solos the string can choke out because you're pushing up hill so to speak. With a flatter radius you ca... |

Fretboard radius My curiosity got the better of me so I rigged up a crude jig and drew a 12, 14 and 16 inch radius to see the difference, needless to say it's not a lot! Looks like you could use a 12 ich bridge with a... |

Thickness sander? Erm not exactly but I seen it the toobs and thought I'd try, not totally convinced though. They make it look easy to get a perfect finish on the toobs but I've still got slight ripples. Not bad though... |

RE: Rutlands Bobbin Sander £100 @tv101 Using it or a router table your fingers are going to get reasonably close, you have to use a bit of common sense so if the wood catches your fingers don't get pulled into the cutter. But that ... |
