@swepri That’s an approach I’ve used often, usually before clearing out with a chisel e.g. in cutting a mortise. Would definitely reduce the amount of material to be routed out.👍😃

It could be worth checking the A string nut slot to make sure the string leaves crisp right at the end of the slot.
Thats a good call, I’ll check that when I’m changing the strings.

@swepri I think it would get worse with thicker strings, needing longer free length. Maybe a bridge with a little more adjustment range could fix it? If you have another A string, you could try that first. Sometimes (very rarely)… Read more»
