RE: Build #3 (another original design)

Man I’ve had a lot of trouble making a neck for this thing. Started on neck #4 yesterday. Yep, I’ve trashed 3 already. Too big of a hurry I’m thinking. Anyway all I’ve done this time around is route t...

RE: Kalimar's First Guitar Build from Scratch

Made some patterns on the laser cutter. I'm using fairly thin MDF hardboard, My plan is to use the router table rather than handheld so I believe the thin template shouldn't pose a problem. I'm not sh...

@bpower I like the idea of the bottle screws on your jig, I'm going to be copying that idea on mine, I've got some of these in my boat junk box.

RE: Guitar build #4

thanks @swepri. I did that "random pattern" rosette on my last build too and I am really liking the end result. I think it may become my "thing" on my guitars... or at least some variation of that. 🙂

Turns out the binding is to yelllow when you get it in good light but I have more browny coloured cream binding on the way which should match the pickups better, it's more yellow than it looks in the ...

I agree! Fortunately someone else at the space, more competent than myself, made that jig. Made my life easy. The digital angle ruler really helped too!

RE: Ever get the feeling that a build is cursed?

@rathius I use regular car matt 1k, so simple, dry sand very lightly after to remove any overspray or that but there's none of this wet sanding or polishing. I ALWAYS sand through gloss lol Look at...

RE: Ever get the feeling that a build is cursed?

Yeah I learned that the same way. In my case it was at the neck socket. Yeah. I almost cried. The fix? Well as some may recall, I grew up in an auto body shop so the fix was body filler. Not auto body...

RE: making a disposable razor into an awesome scraper

I finally found it on Udemy! It's in the section on gluing the body blanks! Take the new razor blade and scrape it on a sharpening stone. It creates a burr which helps with scraping! Cheers!

@kalimar old maple and mahogany floor boards make nice necks, just trim off the nail holes. For the body any hardwood will do really, just need to be mindful of the weight, Some woods are really heavy...

@nsj Very cool - and a great way to use all of your wood. I'm hoping to start finding old free tables to upcycle into guitars after I get a little more experience under my belt.

@kalimar Over as laminate, it's about 1.5mm thick or so but I like to match the face of the headstock to the body wood.

RE: Kalimar's First Guitar Build from Scratch

@nsj does that go over the headstock as a laminate or is the actual headstock? did you make a scarf joint for it?
