Day 4. Surprisingly, that followed Day 3 back in 2008 …

Day 3 …
I was using Iron Gear pickups back then. I’ve recently gone back to them too. In terms of value for money, I still reckon that they’re unbeatable. OK, made in China, but build quality has… Read more»

Day 2…
That top is Amazique. Which is another word for bloody heavy. I chose it based on looks, rather than any other attribute. The guitar is over 9lbs … which is a bit heavier than comfortable. :(… Read more»

I’d say 60s or (very) early 70s. There were a multitude of similar things produced in that era, under various different brands, mostly cheap and not hugely well made. It was really the period in which the Japanese learned… Read more»

I’ve seen a video of someone making these – must have been one of the YT woodworking channels that I wander into (very) occasionally. Looked simple enough to make, though it was a US channel (IIRC), and they had a… Read more»

Can I glue a bit on to thicken it at the heel for a set neck
I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen commercial builds done exactly like that, so I don’t see why it would be a problem.

Half the reason for making the kit was to give me a reason to do some more woodwork! I had some bits of ~5mm thick mahogany left over from something, but it wasn’t quite wide enough, so I added the… Read more»
