I sanded the whole guitar back and applied more thinned down polyurethane, couple of coats. Now I’ll wait a day or two and apply the microcrystaline wax then assemble. The first coats of poly helped fill the grain.
 

@rathius Well, I’m glad that my idea was useful to someone. Have you made yours yet? It’s been months since I last logged on here. I hope that large router bit didn’t give you any trouble.
