Hi Mark,

I've been working through your online courses which are very easy to follow. When I eventually come to build the Bandsman I feel that I will be able to do it following your instructions and copying what you are doing but I worry that I won't be able to do this when it comes to building a different design of guitar because I won't have direct instructions to follow. I don't seem to be able to grasp how to transfer the skills from building a Bandsman to building a Strat or Les Paul style guitar. I feel I need to develop a better understanding of guitar dimensions such as the thickness of the neck in relation to the thickness of the body. Hopefully the more I watch the courses the penny will eventually drop.

@Russ ... worry ye not.

Quite seriously, before my first course, I had trouble sawing a piece of wood in half without something going horribly wrong.

I did my first in-workshop course, and that taught me that I *could* build a guitar.  Which was an amazing - and genuinely life-changing - moment for me.

I did the second in-workshop course to learn *how* to build a guitar.  The basics of why things are done in a particular way rather than just following step 1 through to step 254 (plug it in).

Following the course, you'll both build and learn at the same time.  And then, just jump in and build some more.  There is no single way to build guitars.  There are clever ways, and there are harder ways, but most ways will get you there eventually.

Draw some out, full size.  That might help explain some of the reasons for the dimensions being as they are?

@tv101 Thanks for that advice Tony. It's given me my Mojo back. I'm very much a visual learner. I'm sure when I get started it will all be a bit clearer and as you say when I draw it all out on paper I'll be able to see how it comes together.

Thanks again.

Russ
