do you reckon the rings alone were cut into the fretboard, or are the markers made up of rings *and* dots?
After Sat’s session, I’ve been trying to think of ways of just cutting a ring into the board ...
And, yes, very neat looking!

@tv101 I know what you are striving for, it would be good but like a mark said, I fear the cutter would wander when drilling. The only way, as far as I know, to keep a circular cutter stable is to have a centred drill bit. That would put a hole right in the middle though and that would not do. It’s a tricky puzzle.

One way of making a ring without a centre guide might be to heat the metal tube and burn the ring recess. I've never tried it but a go on scrap wood can't do any harm. You could hold the tube in a drill press and the FB in a drill vice if it's a blank then apply the heat. Several light passes would be better than one long press.
Some people call me a tool, others are less complimentary. Tools being useful things.
Tried out my idea of burning the ring into the wood and it worked not too bad, better in ebony than rosewood. I should have cleaned the burr on the brass tube from cutting before gluing the rings in and it would have looked a bit neater.
The tube went cold quickly so I had to set everything up with tube in the drill press, wood in the vice then heat and press quickly about 3 or 4 goes to get a decent depth.

Brilliant idea, and great execution @rocknroller912.
That looks like the solution to me!
@markbailey - remember where you saw it first 😉

How about using a circular cutter, cut a circle in a piece of plywood of a similar depth of the cutter to use as a guide. Clamp the plywood guide to fretboard and it might stop the cutter from wandering. Obviously try it on a bit of scrap before ruining your fretboard. I used this method with a forstner bit to cut a counterbore as an afterthought around a hole that I'd already drilled for my rythm/treble switch decal.
That looks great @rocknroller912
I have too many guitars...said no one in the world..ever!
There is another method of drilling to insert a metal ring using a double ring drill. Violin bow makers use them to insert a Sterling Silver ring into the ebony bow frog, sometimes with a pearl eye and sometimes not.
Ive found some drills on a US site called Bow Works guitarpartsandmore.com they are very pricey though and designed for repeated professional use.

I’ve seen just uninstalling this tube as you would a dot and then fill the inner with ebony and superglue or an ebony dowel.
And I’ve not had a drink...bloody iPad auto correct..
Should have been

@deej I’m glad this was corrected because it played Merry hell with my dyslexia, I read it about 10 times before giving up. 🤣
