I’m fuming! 😡🤬
A packaging company have let me down, I ordered from them on the 28th November. I contacted them earlier this week to see what was going on and they said it would be delivered on Thursday. Today! Their communication has been terrible and I didn’t get a tracking link from them either. I understand things are a little crazy because of covid and Christmas, that’s why I ordered in plenty of time.
I have a courier pickup slot booked for Monday morning to take a guitar up to Scotland for Thursday/Friday (these are the recipient’s days off to take delivery of the parcel). It’s a carefully planned operation and the packaging company have thrown a spanner in the works.
How can I send this guitar without a packing box?
I can’t get anything else delivered here in time before the pickup. (Courier pickup 😁)
Any suggestions?
Thanks for any help.

Could you use something like a large vacuum bag in reverse, blow it up with air with lots of wrapping inside. Medics use things like that as splints so it might work if you find one big enough. Also two years ago I bought a jazz guitar from Israel and it came in bubble wrap in a cardboard box which amazed me. Picking a good courier is just as important as the packaging.
Some people call me a tool, others are less complimentary. Tools being useful things.
Thanks @rocknroller912 and @tv101 I’ll consider those option. 👍

This is going to sound bloody obvious but can't you send it up in a guitar case (if you have one that it fits that is) and then simply pay to have the case sent back to you empty afterwards? Probably cost no more than the cardboard box and you won't need as much bubble wrap.

@darrenking Yeah I have considered that but there is a weight restriction on the package I’ve booked to be collected. I’m not sure whether I booked a 2kg or 5kg parcel. I’ll get a case down from the attic and weigh it all.

@darrenking I’ve checked the weight of package that I booked and it’s up to 5kg so it should be ok. I’ve got an old case in the attic, that will have to do but it’s quite heavy. I more modern ones I have are fibreglass or similar and are quite light but the interiors are moulded for certain guitar makes and models. The old one I have is made of wood, probably thin ply and blocks etc. I’m sending other items in the parcel too so I’ll have to try and get everything in the guitar case. 🤣

If you ever want to buy cardboard shipping boxes (or any boxes) for shipping guitars to customers,
NEVER, EVER, EVER....
NEVER USE CARDBOARDBOXES.CO.UK
https://www.cardboardboxes.co.uk/
THEY ARE CONMEN! (this is my opinion)
Don’t take my word for it, just check out Trust Pilot reviews.
https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/cardboardboxes.co.uk?page=2
I will probably never receive my order or get my money back.
It’s funny how they can take the time to lie to their customers on Trust Pilot but don’t actually reply to your emails or phone calls. I am reporting them to Trading Standards and I would phone the police if I thought it would do any good.
I know this is a very negative post but I wanted to warn people about these charlatans before you get stung like I did.
Remember the name and avoid it.

Are you sure that the guitar, and case, comes in under 5kg? It’d have to be a light guitar, and a fairly light case ...
Also, check the small print of the courier’s insurance. Many of them opt out of covering guitars, unless they’re packed very specifically ...

I’ve booked another delivery slot for a 10 - 15kg parcel to be picked up instead. I’ve paid the extra courier insurance too.
I’ve decided to send it in a proper guitar case (my Fender Strat case), the guitar and case weighs just over 10kg but I’ve yet to wrap it in cardboard and packing tape etc.
It’s not an absolute top notch, tonewood, one-off, custom guitar, worth thousands, the body is made from pallet wood. Having said that, the neck is an amazing piece of cherry. It’s got Wilkinson humbuckers and inexpensive tuners. It’s a nice guitar and I’m proud of it but if it did get damaged, I’m not losing a fortune, just a Christmas present and the time I spent making it.

What year is the pallet wood from?
Most people say the ‘57 Honduran is best.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 erm..... I think it’s ‘63 Lancashire Poplar (I think). Between that and the cherry neck, it produces a very nice sustain and tone. I’ve found using this wood, the type of glue used can give a subtle but distinctive difference to the tone. Are you feeling it too? It’s so much more organic using tonewood and bull**it to bind it all together. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Why not just set up a reseller account with Hiscox and sell all your guitars with a case? Solves the packaging issue, you will make an extra few quid on the sale and your client doesn’t’t have to find a case themself.
Now that is a good idea Darren, top drawer. I'd have to fill my attic with cases though. 😂

Now, there's an idea @darrenking - wonder how many of us could use another decent Hiscox case (or three) and what sort of volumes you need for a reseller account.
