On my latest build I suddenly decided to add a veneer to the headstock, quite late in the process. I think I already had shaped the neck, so I had to lower the already routed top surface of the headstock. Of course it sholuld have been done earlier in the process - but when would you guys do it?

Fix the headstock angle and glue the veneer first, before routing the truss rod slot, or the other way around?

@swepri I usually decide for a headstock veneer at the very last moment in the construction phase, just before putting the hardware on, or, sometimes even after that, hell , you could even add it after you have put finish on the guitar 🙂 it just means refinishing the headstock.

I add it towards the end, sometimes thin the headstock and sometimes don't, depends on the tuners and how long the posts are. Often I'll add it and leave a slot for the nut between it and the end of the board. But generally late on in the process.
