Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to introduce myself and say thank you to Mark and the folks at Bailey for making the videos! It's been a blast watching them and learning about making guitars.

I am embarking on my first build so will likely need all the advice there is to get so thanks in advance for that!

Here's the story so far. 🙂

Drawing and some templates...

My version of Mark's jig to refine the scarf joint for the head stock.

I’ve not ventured into New Jersey on any of our trips - have been to the States 5 times - maybe next time, my wife’s nephew lives in Brooklyn and a mate from Uni is in Carlisle PA and we are due to visit at some stage once this virus is under control.....

Measure once........
Measure again.........

Here's the story so far

@USADave Welcome to the forum and the guitar making revolution Dave. Come to this sanctuary from this crazy world we all live in whenever you want to escape. We all help each other out here so ask questions, upload pictures or videos and one or many of us will reply as soon as we can. There are obvious time zone differences so communication can be asynchronous.

Nice work so far, I love the jig.

Neck build current state of play...

Hardly perfect but coming along OK. Mark was not kidding putting a radius on ebony is a nightmare, triple so for the inexperienced in that I had a beast of a time making it even and almost went into an OCD spin out as I made my fret slots dangerously shallow... Building these things is way more stressful than gigging with them! Yikes!!!

Hope all is well in the good ole’ UK!

Lookin’ good dude, nice headstock!

Glad you didn’t go through the inlays 👍, just wait until it needs a refret! 😬

Keep the photos coming!

Practice on scrap...

@usadave It’s looking good Dave. One thing you have to remember about radiusing a fretboard by hand is to keep checking the height at all four corners, that they are all the same. It’s about keeping the whole thing level, lengthways, the radius is the same (unless it’s a duel radius) and it’s the same height all over. I started buying readymade fretboards from Mark but then I wanted to push myself and make my own. It is difficult but it does add to your skills list. Keep going buddy. 🤘😁🤘🎸

Thanks everyone for the good advice!

Fingers crossed that I don’t waste this neck!

One last shot of the neck with fret marker locations marked.

@usadave

ahh I misread! You wrote fret slots and I was thinking inlay, d’oh!

Yeah you probably have it under control but just deepen the slots before you sand them away, 😆
