Hello everyone!
My name is Azad, I'm from Iran. Last year I got myself a second hand bass guitar and started to learn how to play it, but since I enjoyed fixing and working on things, I spent most of my time working on basses rather than practicing to play. Not that long ago, I was searching on YouTube for videos teaching how to build guitars and I came to "Guitar Making", the best channel ever! Since then I've been following Carol and Mark.
Due to International sanctions against the Iranian regime, I can't buy anything from abroad and there is not much available here, so I'm trying to build my own stuff.
Carol and Mark, I want to thank you for making this website, and for all the time and energy you are putting on it.
Cheers!
Hi Azad
And welcome to the world of guitar (and bass!) making.
Mark's advice is very practical. Although you can collect a LOT of tools (he certainly has), it's also amazing how few tools you really need to make and work on guitars, so hopefully you'll manage to get hold of what you need.
Check out some of the posts and threads by @marcel. He's made some pretty impressive instruments. And some basses too.

@azad Hello Azad and welcome to the forum and to our guitar building community. World politics and trade is terrible at the moment but that is not going to stop us communicating and sharing information about guitar building. We will help you as much as we can. You do not need a lot of expensive tools or woods to make guitars, I love making them out of old shelves or window sills etc. I’m sure you can find some timber in your local area and see if people will help you out with the list of tools you need. Please ask us anything and even though our counties are very different in religion, culture and politics, we don’t worry about that here. We are all here to enjoy our hobby of guitar making. Welcome our new friend, Azad.
Make guitars, not war 🌍✌️🎸
Hello Azad, welcome to the best guitar building community! If you have any questions about guitar building this is the right place to ask them. And if there are any parts for a bass you can't get (bridge, tuners etc.) I would be more than glad to send it to you. My neighbour Behrouz is from Iran so he can give me advise what is the best way to send it to you.

@marcel Thanks a lot Dear Marcel!
I appreciate your kind offer! I've found a way to build a bridge, and I am happy with the result.
My sister lives in Berlin, and she bought some parts for me, but because of the Covid-19, and the travel bans, I don't have them here.
Thanks again!
Welcome Azad.....this forum has no sanctions when it comes to advice, help and support for guitar and bass makers.
More clever people than me on here can help with advice on making tools and parts.... there's always another way 😉 Good to meet you.
Thanks James!

Hi Azad, welcome to the group. It's amazing what you can build from junk. My first guitar was wood from on old bed frame and a piece of floor out of a boat.

@azad Welcome Azad!
Not having access to the materials needed to build/mod must be quite frustrating, sorry to hear that. However that bridge looks great! Which part of Berlin does your sister live in? I recently moved from there so just curious...
Cheers!

@matt-beels
Hi Matt! She lives in Friedenau. I am so glad that you liked that bridge. It fits on a Yamaha Super Bass 800 from 1979. I broke the original bridge the first day I got it. So after a couple of attempt the final one looks okay.
Cheers!
@azad
I don’t know too much about Friedenau, it’s a small neighborhood over by the old Tempelhof Airport (I think), in the west. I lived on the east side, mostly in Prenzlauer Berg and the last few years in Weissensee.
How much of the old bridge (if any) still exists? I‘m guessing the saddles and that brass anchor piece are new. Yamaha have made millions of instruments, how’s yours?

Dear Matt
I don't know Berlin that much, I visited her two years ago and I spent some time in the city but not that much that I can remember.
The Main part of the bridge got broken, I measured it and plan it in AutoCAD, then I went to a workshop with a laser cutter for metal sheets, and cut it on stainless steel. I made the part that holds the strings end and screws for intonation out of Brass, by hand, using Drill and files and sandpapers. The saddles are new, I made them out of the brass hex bar. The old ones still exist.
Here is the broken part:
I can send you the plans if you need to build one.
@azad
Yes, that’s what I meant with base plate. The body of the bridge, the piece that broke.
I re-read your post and realized that you don’t yet have the parts that your sister bought, I initially thought that she got you some parts for the broken bridge...
