Who wants to turn on noisy machinery and do some work when, instead, you could get comfortable on the soft furnishings, switch the coffee machine on, listen to some music, light some candles .......
That’s it @tv101, you’ve convinced me. I’ll cancel the bandsaw order and instead get a plush sofa, incense, some essential oils and a yoga mat. Fuck it!

New to this site and forum, having a look around.
Welcome to guitar making fun house Slamannan. The rest of you life starts here and, as per Royston Vasey, you’ll never leave! 🤣 🤣
Have fun, share your triumphs and disasters, and you’ll find a huge amount of support and encouragement heading in your direction.
Cheers

Well you do for a start! CNC routers don’t run on cotton wool in order to weave fairy hammocks!! 😂😂
it should be here tomorrow
Hey Boo,
assuming that TNT/FedEx do their bit you should receive a heavily strapped, very strong cardboard box before 12 on Thursday. I expect at least as many compliments on the internal packaging as the machine itself and don’t lose the spanner!!😂 Looking forward to seeing the unpacking video and a very shiny, glittery guitar! Hope you enjoy it.
Cheers
Darren
and don’t lose the spanner!!
Or any of the other packing materials if this thing is going to be doing a country tour!!
and a very shiny, glittery guitar!
We've already seen that version.
😎
I'm looking forward to seeing a very very very shiny glittery guitar once it's been caressed by the bufferer ...
Seriously, interested in trying this on an oiled finish. Getting that to a high shine finish is always a challenge.
Sorry, enough of a thread de-rail, back to welcoming @bonnywood!

@darrenking I’m sat in the window, watching out for the delivery man/woman. 😀
I’ll practice polishing a couple of other things before I attempt the Sun King glitter ball guitar. I’ll try not to lose the spanner, I tidied up my workshop a bit so losing it will be less likely. 👍✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ There are going to be so many shiny things.

@tv101 No! It’s staying here with me now, this is it’s new home for ever and ever. 🤣

Yes that will be interesting, not sure I have anything oiled, ready to buff. I’ll find something.

That’s a good point, everyone get back to welcoming my friend @bonnywood 🤘😁🤘🎸

Thanks I think I posted photos of some of my builds before but here’s a Strat in bubinga from about 2000 and my fiddle started at the Cambridge Violin School,
finished mostly at work.
Interested that you’ve made an LP, I will be in touch when I get started, although I had a depressing video call with the hospital today, might need another hand operation.
Some people call me a tool, others are less complimentary. Tools being useful things.
might need another hand operation.
Ahhh that sounds awful @rocknroller912, sorry to hear that. Good luck!

Thanks it sucks they think it’s septic arthritis. Can destroy the joint.

I think this would need a soft, dry buffing mop and you can’t mix compounds on the same wheel so it would need a mop dedicated to oil finish polishing.
You mentioned that you’ve made an LP style so I’m looking for some advice please about how to route the pick up cavities. Obviously a flat template isn’t going to work very well either before or after carving. I’m wondering how you did yours.

*Before* you put the cap on (assuming that's what you're going to do), rout the cavities into the body. And the wiring channels too. Do *NOT* forget the wiring channel up to the p'up selector switch.
Do *NOT* forget the wiring channel up to the p'up selector switch.
(Deliberate repeat!!).
Then put the cap on.
Then drill through the cap into the middle of the p'up cavities - the hole just needs to be big enough for a router bit to fit through.
Then use a router bit with a bottom bearing and effectively use the cavity already in the body as the template to make the same cavity into the cap.
