I’m quietly working on the guitar neck for my laminated semi hollowbody, and rushed off to Stranraer this morning to get some hardwood strips to make my fingerboard caul.

On the way, we popped into a used furniture shop where I spotted an Epiphone Junior Model (2006 Chinese bolt-on neck).

“Geez a choon, mate”, says the proprietor, when I pick it up.

“It’s only got five strings”, say I.

“Och, it’s from a house clearance mate. Yours for a tenner.”

And so now I have another guitar which cost little more than the fingerboard caul.

Thinking of using it for slide?

The jack socket had a misaligned nut forced on. And the humbucker measures around 14.5k, which seems a little unnecessary. No idea what the woods are, but it’s quite heavy.

Now I just need to save up for a new set of strings.

@jamesbisset 13 - 16k is generally where I like with a bridge humbucker. I find wide variations though from muddy to superb singing clarity in that range.

That’ll do nicely. 🙂

Bargaintastic Mr B!

Ideal platform for messing about with pickups 'n' stuff.  And shouldn't need much TLC to get it playing nicely.

Like the old joke about how to double the value of a Lada (fill the tank with petrol).  How to double the value of JB's guitar - give it a new set of strings.

😆

Seriously disappointed. The body is plywood. For a tenner I would have expected two piece alder at the very least, and preferably mahogany.

Ah well, that explains the weight.

You sound a little disappointed there.  Remember, that's not any old plywood.

That's special Chinese plywood.

Well, you can’t complain at that for a tenner can you really. These are the types of bargains that everyone should look out for and use for practicing repainting. Get the paint cans out and spray some painty goodness. 👍
