Built this one a while agao, first carve top. Had a few things i wasm't happy with, floyd sat above the body, recess wasn't nicely lined up and the finish was kinda sticky. I thought lets improive it.

Used the router sled and template router bit to remove the top, bookmatched and glued on a new ash top. Redid the carve as per Mark's youtube live vid method. Increased the thickness of the body too so the top sits higher allowing me to properly recess the floyd.

Used my laser for the logo as usual but have also started adding a little one on the back of the headstock. Handmade in Scotland

It's a brazillian mahogany neck through, ash top, gotoh hardware and warman pickups

Lovely work @nsj!

I wouldn't have thought the tiger router would have left the body surface flat enough for gluing on a top, but good to know!

@liebe surfacing bit from radian tools, use it then give it a quick sand and it's ready to go. I use 80 grit on a hard piece of wood.

@nsj lovely. I don't think there was, but just in case there was any misunderstanding, my comment was based on my mixed results with flattening with a router sled not any suggestion you were doing it 'wrong'.

I didn't think version 1 was that bad, but version 2 of the guitar is a definite improvement.

I've not made it to your YouTube yet, but been following you on insta.

@liebe the finish was kinda tacky, floyd sat fairly high above the recess and the recess rout wasn't very good. That one was my first carve top too I believe. I prefer to bring the recarve further out near the edge around the bum end. Think it looks better.

And I didn't get any impression you thought I was doing it wrong lol

@nsj

Enjoyed watching this, Neil. Good to see how things can be adapted rather than building from scratch. 🙌

@russ thanks bud, it's so much nicer, the whole fit and finish is vastly improved and now I could happily put it up for sale
