OK, here is how my fix is going. It’s gone great. I routed a square shape, cut a piece of the same wood (poplar), drilled some holes and glued it all in, reinforced with some wooden pins. I left it overnight. I’ve planed the excess off, sanded it and scraped it with a blade. It’s pretty flat. I now need to stick my routing template back on and carefully route the excess off to create the full string ferrule cavity again. This is all probably over engineered but that’s just how I roll. 🤣 This guitar body is going to be painted so this repair will not be seen. 🤘😜🤘

A Trend router, nice!
Why did you put in the dowels?
@mattbeels Yeah a Trend router, it’s a smaller one but works well, this was my first router. I now have my big Bosch router that I use for most things and another one I bought from Aldi. I used the Trend for this job because it’s the only one I’ve got an 18mm bush for (for use with the routing template for the string ferrule).
I used dowels because I’m an over-engineer. 🤣 I do it with most repairs, I feel it gives things more stability. Maybe it doesn’t and maybe it’s not needed but that is what I do. 🤣

Superglue and sawdust makes everything nice and smooth. It may look like there are still gaps but I assure you they are not, they are filled with superglue.

All looking good Boo. 🙂
I hope you enjoyed your haggis, neeps and tatties. I missed my usual Burn's supper the last two years because I wasn't well enough to eat and drink the required quantities. Ironically now that I'm well, the world isn't ready for me yet.

@eddie6string Ahhhhh...... Stainless Steel 😱😱😱😱😱

Aww come on man, Stainless Steel ain’t no big deal...
But @eddie6string, SS with a compound radius? Impressive, that’s a lot of work!
Practice on scrap...
Maybe???
All my guitars get compound radius - ( it just plays/feels so much better), unless client requests otherwise.
It only took 3 attempts to get the knack

@eddie6string I do not know how to do it, never done it. Do you have to sand the fretboard with the different radii before installing the frets?
@mattbeels To be honest I’ve never used SS frets so I can’t really say anything. I’ve just heard stories about how hard work they are compared to standard frets. Are they not as bad as some people make out then?

You're best getting used to set radius and fretwork first.
For compound radius (several ways to tackle it)
Fretboard;
1) profile entire board to larger radius
2) remark with pencil
3) profile Nut end of board to smaller/tighter radius from between 0 fret (not fitted yet) to just shy of 2nd fret. Do not sand below pencil line at apex of board.
4) following the direction of strings (fanning out towards body) blend the two radii until pencil marks either side of the centre line disappear. Checking with straight edge. This flow of sanding (step 4) will be needed on leveling frets. Use radius gauges to reassure that profile is progressing evenly.
5) fit frets sympathetic to progressive profile and crown as per normal
If anything SS slows you down a little which for learning ain't a bad thing!
Hope this helps

@eddie6string Thanks for the explanation Eddie, I’ll have a go one day.
