Right here goes starting the drawing, the rules are out, a roll of lining paper, some pencils and an eraser.

PRS double cut style with P90’s as I don’t have a guitar with those pickups.

Give up the news folks, it’s liberating!

@peebee Yeah! Show us your drawing when you are ready, let’s all double check it! 🤘😁🤘🎸 Good luck.

I have to say, I have had the same thought about a PRS, I’ve never had one or played one so I want to build one.

@peebee maybe at first it may seem difficult but before you know it, it will become second nature and you won’t even need to think about it much. Keep going and ask questions if you are unsure. 👍

Headstock template made. But too cold for too much work in the garage today.

took measurements and with a combination of free hand, tin of beans and a coffee cup managed to mackle a drawing together which I then stuck to some 18mm mdf, bandsawed the outline and finished on the bobbin sander.

I need to make a copy but too cold today!

@peebee

Nice one! Plus you have a bobbin sander, sweet! Is it one of those combo jobs with a belt or a proper “up-n-downer?”

@matt-beels it’s a up and downer, cylinder type.

here’s the drawing so far, not finished the body shape and a couple of other things, but it’s getting there.

@peebee

Your drawing looks great, which bridge do you plan on using?

Well as it stands the Wilkinson wrap around, I have a similar bridge on a guitar I have already. I have looked at some alternatives, they get pretty pricey. So as it’s my first go I think I’ll stick to the Wilkinson as it’s fairly low cost and simple to fit.

Our local B&Q was out of 18mm mdf so iv'e had to settle for 12mm. I bought a 4'x2' sheet that I'll use as a drawing board before I cut it up for templates. No bandsaw or bobbins here, it'll be jigsaw and and hand sanding for me.

Robin, you are the master of doing a great job with the minimum of kit, hats off.

I have been collecting tools for the last 2 years or so, Birthdays and Christmas etc. The Bandsaw was a combined present for my 50th. It’s a great bit of kit and the bobbin sander saves so much time, that I bought off eBay brand new a few years ago with a discount code.

If only I had a hat, it would be too cold to take it off. 🥶🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🙂

The drawing so far. Now just going to look at it and decide if it’s right.

I have a couple of bits of wood to practice the body on before committing.

@peebee make sure your tuners line up and that the horns on the headstock are not in the way of the pegs of your tuners. Looks like it may.

@peebee It’s looking good but I can’t see where the scale length line is. Make it really clear so you can’t overlook it. Also, if you are using the Wilkinson wraparound bridge, have you measured 6mm back from the scale length line? It’s that line you use to mark the post holes on. From what I can see in your drawing, you may have marked your post holes too far back (I could be wrong). I always over draw the scale length line (vertically) and mark it up (SL) so there is no doubt as to what it is and why it is there. From there, measure 6mm back and draw another long vertical line (with your drafting square. Your holes will be drilled on that line once you have measured them out from the centre line.

I would feel happier if you could do these couple of things to your drawing and show us before going any further.
