Ive been asked to make something similar from an old scaffold plank and am not sure how to start, so I will watch yours first and see how it goes.

I’m assuming you are using nitro in rattle cans, is that right?

I am using rattle cans, but not nitro. Its Plasikote clear gloss lacquer that I’ve got.

 Keep going with more coats yet Robin, you need at least 10, I would say.
