@darrenking I take your point about experts completely, think that’s how people become experts by debating everything to infinity. After watching the video posted by @tv1010101 I now have more understanding of the way valve amps are put together, as… Read more»

@darrenking Really enjoyed the video class you did with Mark and hope to try these things sometime. Clearing out the recently departed Chris Eccleshall’s workshop I have come accross this heavy vacuum pump – I guess it’s too vicious for… Read more»

That’s a good Q @darrenking. I’ll have to think about that!! Right, having completely forgotten to think about it … my sub-conscious has clearly been working on it because an idea has just popped into the empty space I call… Read more»

Is it possible to convert this to a scrolling window @darrenking I think Mark’s pretty limited in what he can do re functionality of the site. The “forum” functionality is an add-in that’s bolted (or, given that this is Mark,… Read more»

I’m really interested in the Tune-O-Matic @darrenking I’ve got one in my box-of-bits at the moment. It’s in need of some TLC before I install it as – according to the person who donated it to me – it’s not… Read more»

@darrenking This is my Ibanez JEM with direct mount pickups, also wood screws. The clear scratch plate has no functional purpose, it’s purely aesthetic. I think this is a great look but using a metal bar (threaded) for the pickup… Read more»

I know it would mean having another cover plate but couldn’t they be mounted from behind to avoid having the visible recesses for the screw fixings? @darrenking Yeah I know what you mean, that’s how Strats hold their pickups but… Read more»

What is the aim of these blocks as I don’t quite understand the advantages? @darrenking For me Darren it’s just aesthetic really, just to get rid of the pickup rings. There are a lot of ‘80 metal guitars without pickup… Read more»

@darrenking The purpose is to allow pickups to be mounted directly to the body (into the bottom of the pickup cavity) rather than into a pickup mounting ring which is then attached to the body. I’m not persuaded that there… Read more»
