I wondered if also what you could do is get the template on position and then, as it’s tapered, move it back say 5mm
@peebee The trouble is with that is it changes the width of the nut.

@peebee Glue some veneer to each side of your neck. When the glue has dried, use some 80 grit sandpaper on a hard, flat block to sand them down until the neck fits tight in the pocket. Make sure you… Read more»

@peebee If I make a mistake like that it try and fit a solid piece of wood into the pocket instead of a veneer, because glued on veneers don’t route or carve very easily. It’s liable to tear because there… Read more»

TBH @peebee, unless you’re planning on repeating the fec up on future builds and therefore needing lots of veneer, you can find small offcut pieces on eBay, or I can just put some bits & pieces in the post to… Read more»

Sorry to hear that @peebee! Why not try making some yourself with the bandsaw? If it doesn’t work out it’ll at least be good practice…

My first proper carve, fretting and fitting of inlays / side dots. On the whole it went well, no major issues, all due to Marks excellent course! @peebee Looking good there, it’s good to see you enjoying it all. 👍
