RE: Benefits of a bolt-on acoustic neck

You could just make the shims yourself anyway and keep the Taylor supplied shims as a plan B ? That's what I would do 🙂

RE: first scratch build : a neck through 12 string semi hollow telecaster style guitar

If you've got the time, money and wood @tyreman then go for it. It's all about learning and trying things out. For the proportions, you could be right in trying it with the longer strat style body. &...

RE: Benefits of a bolt-on acoustic neck

I did think about it @robin - always an option - but as Taylor offered to send me a pack of alternative shims, I didn't need to. I've had very good experience from Taylor Customer Service before too, ...

Well, if it's good enough for Taylor ... Be interesting to see how the shims work when the arrive and I fit them - how much improvement to the action I can get, and whether I end up with any ugly gaps...

I'm currently ploughing my way through watching the acoustic course videos, making the most of the torrential rainy days we're having here. You've convinced me to make a bolt on neck, when I get aroun...

Benefits of a bolt-on acoustic neck

I recently bought a Taylor GS Mini (secondhand). It's a great little thing with a lot of oomph from the little body, easy to just leave around the house to pickup and play whenever because it's just t...

@koendb The A course is only one string called the chanterelle. It s function is melody string. Because of esthetics, the peg and peg hole is made but does not have a real function. Some people use ...

RE: first scratch build : a neck through 12 string semi hollow telecaster style guitar

there was cool one that ben crowe made of crimson guitars where he made a 12 string with a rickenbacker inspired headstock, not sure if I like it, but it is good for saving space.

I agree with you, the weight being a primary issue with the longer headstock, I also think it would suit a strat style 12 string better than a tele style, thanks for the feedback.

@robin I agree with you robin, it's been holding me back a bit but now I can continue with the real build, I will go with the 6 x 6 headstock.

@tyreman I like the idea of a straight string pull, thats what I try to do with the six string headstock design that I use. But, I do agree with the other guys that it looks out of proportion.

RE: first scratch build : a neck through 12 string semi hollow telecaster style guitar

@tyreman That is wild and cool. My only issue with it is a practical one, I think it will be top (head) heavy when playing. Unless you have some counter weight at the back of the body, I feel the head...

RE: first scratch build : a neck through 12 string semi hollow telecaster style guitar

The camera angle probably exaggerates it further, but the headstock now looks very big (long) compared to the size of the body. I realise that it's always difficult to get 12 strings on to a headstoc...

what do you think of this headstock design? compared to the other one? this one is designed to have dead straight string pull and there's a bit more space for a decal or logo. Attachment : headsto...
