RE: Does this look straight to you?

If you want to do fancy inlays, ebony is probably a better choice than rosewood, the bits you have to fill won't be as visible.

RE: Does this look straight to you?

Sounds sane to me, I know not all wood is equal but would practising on say the off cuts of the mahogany neck be worth using? I don't have any spare rosewood lying around. @cheesewhisk Yeah, I would ...

RE: Does this look straight to you?

I've got a dremel router base but no template, I do have some carving tools. I'm close to bottling it tbh but I would like to at least attempt something. I know Mark says keep it simple but always say...

RE: Does this look straight to you?

Funnily enough I was watching an older video of Marks where he suggested debonder after someone glued her finger to her guitar. So yes, I definitely got some in before I started inlays.

Totally didn't glue my finger to my thumb either, well maybe for a split second. @cheesewhisk Have you bought any debonder yet for superglue? I have had a few close calls. 🤣

Having second thoughts about the 12 fret wings now but fortune favours the bold or something right? @cheesewhisk Do you have a routing template or small carving chisels for those wings?

To be fair the others went in absolutely fine, more 'learning experiences' eh? Totally didn't glue my finger to my thumb either, well maybe for a split second.

@tej . I’ve managed to clean it up fairly well but now the wood is lighter on two frets where I’ve sanded and scraped. Were you sanding across the grain to get close in to the fret wire. Try sanding...

RE: Truss rod terrors.

@tej Yeah good idea to mark the chanel on the back before carve. I'll certainly do that. Then it's deep breath time and carve that neck 😀

RE: Truss rod terrors.

Think the truss rod size changed - now a 6mm truss rod comes with the kit - not at home to check - you need to make the slot wider at the adjuster end - message Mark to check……..

RE: Truss rod terrors.

Hey @tej Many thanks for the information buddy. Good to know it's not a disaster yet for me. I'll just be very careful in the carve. Cheers Paul.

Hey @markebailey, Thanks for the feed back Mark. 😀 How much wood should I aim to have between the back of the neck and the truss rod chanel after carving? Before carving I think it adds up ...

RE: Truss rod terrors.

Hey @hursty - just to reassure you 12mm truss rod slot depth is OK...just be extra careful not to carve too thin or you will compound the error and that WILL likely be trouble!

things had been going so well it was a little disheartening! Yeah I know that feeling all too well :-/You might be able to get rid of it by sanding with very fine wet n dry.Eventually, even if you do...

Got my foot tapping again James. Thanks @Russ. It was bit of a nightmare. It was the first take and I was running out of time and then, at the end, realised the guitar wasn’t plugged in. So I had to...
