Question - can you use a stain followed by an oil finish - my Firebird build will probably have a maple top on the wings - fancy them being red - can I use a stain and then Finishing Oil?

Hints about using random sanders - when I built my Bandsman here at home I only had a cheap fixed speed sander and it wasn’t easy to keep under control - now I have got a Mirka Deros that has speed controlled by a paddle I have found it easier to control just need some guidance so that I don’t take chunks out by accident.
