Hey Folks - Heads up.

As part of our 5000 sub celebrationaries (WOOP!) - this week we'll all be getting...drum roll pls...

New superfast dedicated host for The Guitar Making Academy!

Yawn...

OK might sound boring to you but it is very exciting to us as it means we are making excellent progress!

We've been super busy here since we started our livestream - but I've also noticed the site getting slower due to the extra numbers of visitors and growing vast archive of images (cheers folks!). This is all absolutely totally awesome but does affect how fast the site loads - I want to give you all the best possible experience so we have decided to get our very own dedicated host. Did I mention it is going to be super fast?  Let's see...The Team have assured me we can always switch back if it is rubbish...make sure to let us know won't you?!

The plan is to switch over sometime Wed's PM - Fingers x'd - Check out 'Workshop Wed' livestream@1pm on the day for more news!

New way to upload images - IMGUR

As part of our mission to speed up the site and improve things for everyone we are advised to start using IMGUR to embed pics - all current images should stay as they are but you will no longer see the same 'attach files' and 'my media' buttons. Instead you can just embed files directly from Imgur (or any other image sharing site).

This will also help to future proof the site and keep it alive for the new comers!

If you are already using Imgur then you are good to go - if however (like me) you are not really sure what this means - don't worry - there will be another post to follow with more info...

Measure twice, cut once...

Great news Mark!!

🙂

Imgur is - IMHO - probably the best of the currently-free web hosts for images.

Photobucket is awful, Flickr recently introduced a limit on the number of images you can host for free, but Imgur continues - for now at least - to be FOC.

It's easy to embed from there to here.

You've got some extra (ie unnecessary) bits of HTML in that post @frocesterbill, so I'm guessing it might be related to which link you chose from Flickr?

Errrrrmmmmm

It looks to me like any images that we previously uploaded to the site have now disappeared?

Look in the "my media" link and see if you see anything listed ... anything that was linked from there into a post has disappeared from the post ...

Yep, it looks like all images have gone or not showing. It looks like any videos are still available but that is because they are external URLs such as YouTube.

Yup, all previous photos gone. Not a huge issue as they had all been posted. Hopefully they are still visible in the posts.

Oh!!! It seems that ALL previous forum posts have had all of their images stripped out. This is not so good!! Are they likely to reappear or are they gone for good? That is one huge catalogue of build records and other pictorial references gone otherwise. What's the news from the mouse monkeys?

@markbailey?

I'm hoping that the uploaded content just hasn't been transferred from the old to the new server.  Fingers crossed.

Or, it might be that the content has been transferred, but that referencing addresses needed to be updated - ie the link between post and image is currently broken.

Hopefully, either of those are easily fixable ... running forums is a thankless task!!
