Hello.

My first attempt at guitar building. I am ready to put a finish on it but I am a touch confused with all these different methods out there.

I am after a matte natural looking finish with the flamed maple top accentuated.

I have done research, and am currently planning on....

- A light amber water based dye.

- Layers of sanding sealer

- Layers of General Finishes Flat Out Top Coat

And then assuming I am done..?

So my questions, is a light layer of amber dye an optimal way to make the maple pop while keeping the original colour?

And are these the correct steps to finish the guitar once sanded?

So this is what i got.

And i want something close to this.

SB1.6FRFM FRONT HORIZONTAL

 Thanks 🙂

Run tests on your offcuts.  My Firebird is only oiled but the Maple looks brilliant - looked ordinary before the oil.

Measure once........
Measure again.........
Sod it - make tea!

Looks like Cellulose Matt - you can apply this from a spray tin - pretty easy.

ps. I'm working RIGHT NOW on a finishing course to cover all these Q'd and more - Premium members only!!

Measure twice, cut once...
