I think the guitar in the video might have looked even cooler if Derek had done multicolour sandback stain finish on the main part of the body, they can look pretty flip-flop in their own right
@jonhodgson Yeah I’ve actually noticed that some woods that I’ve used recently, such as Cherry, can have a natural flip/holographic effect. Using stains can accentuate it further and using some crazy flip paint as a burst would be pretty cool. Some might say it’s OTT but that’s flipping crazy (or is that just me?). Exciting times.

From the description of the process in the video it seems what we'd need is someone with a CNC machine and the equipment to laminate films together.
Remind you of anyone we know?
@jonhodgson Yeah but I’m not sure I can recall his name. Anyone else remember? 🤔

If you want OTT, burst one of these to flip flop paint.
@jonhodgson Yeah, that is stunning stuff, I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on some of that.

For me the secret for getting away with extreme looks is they have to look even better when you look closer, revealing craftsmanship and tasteful touches, rather than initially catching your eye but then being really flawed when you look carefully (like a Las Vegas motel).

@jonhodgson Ah oh! That’s this job out the window then. 🤣

@jonhodgson It’s got some inbuilt, signature light relicing if that’s what you mean. They are not mistakes at all, honest. 😳

Also, can anybody explain to me why there is an Edit button on posts that doesn't do anything? Either let me fix typos or stop teasin
@jonhodgson This is one of @tv101 ‘s favourite topics.
It’s been like that for ages, I used to work but it’s been disabled for some reason. There was an update a while back and it sent TV into a spin. 🤣

That's can be the hardest to achieve, you are a true artisan.
@jonhodgson These black marks might look like DA sanding burn-throughs but they are indeed carefully crafted relics. Yeah that’s what happened..... let’s run with that. 😬

What???
The edit button doesn't work???
😡 😡 😡
It's OK for @Boo because he's a careful typist who check first, but some of us just press the "reply" button and hope for the bist.

Actually Boo, that just shows how *easy* it is for a pretty skilled painter, who will have gone through the spray/rub/spray/buff/etc cycle more times than anyone could remember, to still have a minor whoops.
Is there a recovery technique from that, or is it genuinely now a "relic" design feature?

@tv101 It is possible to fix but a right pain at this stage, it means going back to the metal flake stage. It would mean at least another two/three clear coating sessions with sanding back in between and applying candy paints. It’s something I should have fixed when it happened (it’s what made my mind up to get a new sander in fact, Mirka ✨✨😁) but this was just a practice piece at that point so I didn’t think it mattered. Now it’s become something much more than a practice, so it’s now labelled as carefully crafted relicing. 😁 It adds character you see. 😳
It’s been hanging around (literally) for five days now, drying, curing and sinking and this was going to be its final flattening sand before polishing. So, it’s nearly completed and ready to send to M&C (or @deej first and hope he doesn’t “lose” it). 😁
If I was to fix it now, it would be another couple of weeks or so before I would be back at this last stage. We don’t want that because I bet a lot of forum members are sick of the sight of the “Recent Posts” being clogged up with this thread every day.
