After recently getting an all new heating system installed I ended up with the old copper tank from the attic and had a crazy thought. What about making a guitar from it?
First things first I cut the tank into useable pieces, printed off a template, sandwiched the copper sheets between some mdf and set to with an old blade on the band saw.
Next I knocked up a neck blank
I used a router sled to knock the top of the body section down a bit to allow for bridge height then cut the copper top to fit the fretboard
After checking into joining copper I decided my best bet was to make a wooden frame and glue the copper on. I created a lip to add fake wood binding while I was at it.
Cut my first ever f hole today and glued the plate on the headstock
As usual it's all on my youtube including the cheek clenching latest episode lol
And a bit more, tops glued on, edges filed and sanded over and my tele neck pickup ring finally arrived. Also copper on headstock and logo on trussrod cover. Drilled the temp screw holes I used to hold it together and fitted abalone fret markers lol.
Well this turned out nice, sounds great, plays great but I'll probably get a green arm at some point lol
Final video will be up in a day or two on my youtube, NSJGuitars
