Wasn't sure where to put this but I've got some new wood to sort out. I have a friend of a friend who has one of those big horizontal bandsaw machines so he can cut it into boards. Then I'll just stack it in the house for a year or two before chopping up into tops and bodies etc. I've got about a metre, spalty looking sycamore. It's been lying for a while so is maybe seasoned but it'll be pretty wet I'd imagine. If I get it cut into 2inch thick boards that should do, I can sort it from there.
This is what I'm hoping for, this top is spalted sycamore
Yup, I imagine there would have been some interesting features in that tree. But, we’d just moved in, knew no-one in the area, and just needed the tree gone before any more bits of it fell on things it shouldn’t have fallen onto.

@nsj That burl guitar looks amazing.
@tv101hindsight is fantastic though isn't it? So useful! NOT! Lol
I once told an old managing director that my ambition was to develop my foresight to be as good as his hindsight. It didn't go down as well as I thought it would, but he knew that I shouldn't have said it.

So got to my mates today and got the sycamore sawn up. His self made gadget worked a treat!
And this afternoon another mate popped round with a couple of bits of half round wood, meant to be oak but after machining it looks like ones oak and the other elm lol. He has more though so I'll grab another bit and get something that kinda matches.
Anyway I just cut off the edges then ran them through the thickness planer.
