OK, it’s time for some work on the body today, time for some primer. I’ve masked up the cavities so I don’t get unwanted/unneeded paint in there.
Also, the body has been left in Aquacoat grain filler, sanded to P320 grade. Just as an experiment I sprayed some 1K coloured paint on it from a rattle can, just to see if there were any paint reactions. The answer is, No, there were no paint reactions. This will not be seen when the guitar has been painted, it was literally just to see what would happen, it will now get covered with primer and never seen again.
I’m using primer instead of sealer because none of the wood will show, it’s all being painted over.

Good to know @boo. I'm still debating whether to do a paint job when the time comes. 🎨🖌️

I keep seeing a Mirka sander in these updates.
Enough reminders of the tools that I don't have ....
😆
Looks like good quality work again Mr Boo. Is the "guide coat" to make it easier to see where you've sanded (or not)?

@tv101 Yeah sorry about that. 🤣

Yep, that’s exactly right TV. It doesn’t have to be black, so long as it’s contrasting to the colour of the primer. I could have used blue, red, green, anything really.

I’m really looking to where you are taking us on this build journey
@deej As this guitar isn’t having a neck pickup and no scratch plate, I’m using an alternative method to cover the neck joint. Can you guess how? I’m not just going to paint over it.
I’m concerned that if I did, the paint would crack over time with natural wood movement so I’ve had a rethink.

What's a guide coat and how does it work?
@russ A guide coat is a thin layer of paint (usually from a rattle can) sprayed over primer that you are going to flatten. This is usually a contrasting colour, in this case, black because the primer is white. Can you see how I’ve just misted it on?
