After finishing the design course I've set to work and drawn out my very first design. I'm still waiting on my controls to arrive and I've gone for a tune-o-matic bridge so I need to draw the four positions for those, but very happy so far.

Well done - looks good - looking forward to watching the build.

What woods are you going to use and what sort of finish?

Measure once........
Measure again.........
Sod it - make tea!

Thanks @frocesterbill it's all getting exciting now it's actually moving on.

I've got a 1pc mahogany blank for the body, then a mahogany neck blank and a rosewood (pre cut) fretboard from the shop here.

For the finish I'm thinking I might just go for a natural oil finish as I think it'll look with the gold hardware I've got ordered.

@cheesewhisk

Well you’ve gone and done it now, right on!

Crazy headstock design, cool that you’ve done something different.

I see that you also changed the lower horn for (presumably) better fret access. Looks like a cross between a Lawerence and a Hamer Scepter, cool!

Great job so far!

Not quite, going to have to take a chunk out and glue it on.

Thanks Matt, yeah definitely gone and done it now 🙂

The headstock is part Mark's template so I know it'll work and part trying something of my own, as for the body I actually traced around a Harley Benton EX84 I bought over Christmas so I can't take credit for that.

@cheesewhisk Nice job with the design and drawing, it’s a build I want to do at some point too, it’s a shape I’ve always loved.

Bits, bobs n nobs arrived today. Ordered from Thomann, man they got caught up with Brexit bobbins so took weeks but all here now. Just need a nut, some fret wire and dots and I think we’ll be ready to rock 🤘

@cheesewhisk Looking good man, love the gold hardware.

As a matter of interest, how much of a tariff did you have to pay because of Brexshit? I love Thomann, it’s a great store but I’m not sure it’s economically viable for us in the UK now.

Fun fact, I paid no VAT and no import changes from UPS.

Have to say ‘so far’ though as I’m expecting they’ll catch up with it soon enough.

@cheesewhisk. I was going to order some Schaller stuff from them but I might hold off until the dust settles a bit. 😕

That’s always a great feeling!

I recently received an order of templates from Potvin Guitars in Canada. First of all it only took 6 days! and I didn’t have to pay any import fees, there wasn’t even a customs sticker on the box, weird!

But what I really wanted to say was: before you install that strap pin on the back you might want to consider trying it higher up, just to be sure of the feel. You can do this with your strap and some gaffer tape (be careful). Nothing wrong with having it on the center line but you never know, you might just like it higher up.

Good thinking @mattbeels, it’s center lined in my Harley Benton ‘template’ 😂 but that’s so new I haven’t tried with a strap yet. Will definitely give it a whirl this weekend
