@clinton Clinton I love seeing your work, you are a true craftsman/carpenter/luthier etc.ย
Im interested in making some cigar box type instruments, they are my favourite right now. I have never made one before but want to get started. What scale lengths are they? Are there different scale lengths? Do they have truss rods? Oh, so many questions! Sorry.ย

Thanks @Boo. I started out with cigar box style ukuleles and 4 string. I found that the lowest you can go with sufficient string tension on top 4 steel string would be 20 1/4 scale and all 6 steel string at 22 3/4. Suggested higher gauge strings suits it well.ย
My daughter gave me this book for xmas and I'm sure I'll build one at some point. I'm thinking of making something rustic to give her to hang on the wall in her new house as a thanks for the book, probably made from flotsam and jetsam from the beach. Its an interesting book, not just how to make them, but history behind them too.

@robin Someone bought me that exact same book last year and Iโll be doing the same as you and build some out of whatever detritus I can repurpose.ย

Dont rely on the imperial to metric conversion though, some are a bit dubious and the rest are just plain wrong. I particularly like that fractions of an inch translate to fractions of a centimetre, although he does use millimetres (wrongly) in places. Maybe its just the engineer in me being at bit OCD.
