@darrenking Ok, so could the repair patches/blocks be made of birch or poplar plywood? These would be pretty cheap and cheerful (and strong) and a capping of solid could be added by the maker to match the rest of the… Read more»

@darrenking Yeah I guess you could use ply. Don’t forget if it’s a repair that is going to be painted over, it doesn’t really matter what wood it is. Unless you get a really stuffy, fussy old traditionalist that simply… Read more»

@boo I like @Rocknroller912 ‘s idea of replacing one big chunk and re-routing all the cavities. Then seeing @darrenking ‘s idea of a CNC repair block and matching template, I like that better. Maybe Darren could make you a repair… Read more»

@darrenking and @tv101 Here is my idea for my fix. Darren I think that if I could just get out a routing template and repair block, this wouldn’t take long at all so I would seriously look into it. https://youtu.be/4VZWyYjY1Uc

@darrenking I’ve been wanting to do more stuff with routing templates and repair blocks, even where a repair isn’t needed. I was saving this idea for a later build but as the subject has come up, I’ll tell you about… Read more»

CNC machined repair blocks with a matched routing template.
Just how many mistakes do you think we make @darrenking?
You could sell loads!

I should point out that the Template from Potvin didn’t come with a block of wood but the templates to make the block and the cut, sorry @darrenking Having the blocks made is actually a great idea, it would save… Read more»

@darrenking CNC machined blocks and templates would be a tremendous time saving for repair jobs. It would also take away a lot of stress for builders knowing there is an easy fix for mistakes. Hand making and fitting stuff like… Read more»

CNC machined repair blocks with a matched routing template.
@darrenking
That’s a good idea for sure and it’s already being done. Mike Potvin in Canada offers it for pickups and I had one made years ago. It worked great! -

Cheers @darrenking Ive got 3mm, 4mm, 6mm and 1/4” collets. Any idea whether 3mm is close enough to 1/8” to be interchangeable?? My first project completed, but it took a little longer than I’d hoped. Not wanting to over-burden… Read more»

I’ve never seen a router powered by a battery before @darrenking. Does it make it easier to manoeuvre. I’ve never owned any Makita tools. How do you find them?

Yeah, that doesn’t look bad for a prototype @darrenking.
Couple more development iterations and it’ll be ready for market!

Nice work, yet again. So simple, so perfect, so ingenious.
Now, what else can we persuade you to make? -
