RE: Natural - Satin finish

@ndakota I’ve got some of this I’ll be using: Have a look on YouTube as there was a product demonstration/tutorial for it somewhere. From the reviews 3 or 4 coats would leave a nice satin sheen on it...

One warning with oil finishes is to be careful with your application cloth/paper disposal. The curing is pretty exothermal and apparently, it's not unknown for things to catch fire if you just lob the...

RE: Natural - Satin finish

@jonhodgson yes I’ve been warned about that before, no idea how likely it is to actually happen but not worth the risk to find out !

@ndakota there's a video where Chris from Highline Guitars talks about how he handles oil soaked rags (or, more precisely, "handled" as he now uses alternative finishes when he wants the oil look). Yo...

I got a note from the Bailey crew the other day, and for those who're interested we've settled on some Kluson machine heads. #nearlythere Attachment : 20210419_125805.jpg Attachment : 20210...

If you're going to do the job properly, you should also make a set of templates for the carved top, because that means you can do most of the carve with the router too (you create a series of shelfs -...

Oh that would be good if you could, please. We can do some kind of deal. @Boo I did a big tidy of my workshop over the last few days (for reasons that will hopefully become apparent next weekend, o...

RE: New member from Slamannan

I've got the templates @Boo, if you want to make yourself a LP-alike? If I've got some suitably sized MDF, I could make a set of copies for the body, cavities, etc. @tv101 Oh that would be good if yo...

RE: New member from Slamannan

@tv101 @Rocknroller912 Then drill through the cap into the middle of the p'up cavities - the hole just needs to be big enough for a router bit to fit through. I did my LP'ish body the opposite wa...

RE: New member from Slamannan

@tv101 I probably would have worked it out eventually, I’m a bit rusty after having a long lay off from guitar stuff and using power tools. Mostly I’ve been using hand tools.

RE: New member from Slamannan

You're welcome @rocknroller912 As Mark is fond of saying - it's just a matter of breaking things down into simple steps and then there's usually a way of getting the job done. There are probably other...

@rocknroller912 *Before* you put the cap on (assuming that's what you're going to do), rout the cavities into the body. And the wiring channels too. Do *NOT* forget the wiring channel up to the p'up...
