I finally dismantled one of these barrels today. Hammer and bar did the trick, it was quite easy. I just knocked off the metal bands/hoops (don’t know the technical term) and the thing just fell apart...

Last week I finished the carving of the rosette, well the major part of it. Next up is gluing parchment and cutting the refined details for the rosette in the parchment. But that is for in a few weeks...

Last week, I worked on the rosette some more. I glued parchment on the back, using fish glue and cut out the details with a punch and a scalpel knife. Attachment : 493F91F6-D082-4708-BEEE-219B7F75...

My experience is that a lot of the finish is in the prep, and don't worry if it looks crap along the way - the intermediate stages often look a bit dodgy but it comes good in the end.
