RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

I've put a proper Bigsby on it now, what a difference from the piece of Chinese junk that I originally had. Attachment : 20230308_174937.jpg

RE: At it again #3

@nsj It will be my first carve, so I hope it will be fairly easy. I'm going to do the neck first, while the walnut is acclimating in the garage. Working on the ebony fretboard at the moment.

@nsj I love the way I handle mistakes these days rather than freak out. It's from making loads previously Thats a good fix. I'm sure that I learn a lot more from fixing mistakes than I do from gett...

At it again #3

Starting my third build, finally. It will be loosely based on the Bandsman, but with tune-o-matic and four pots. I have a nice piece of walnut for the top and hope I will not screw it up when resawin...

I've heard that some people even waste it, building house frames!! Nice carving work there.

RE: Renaissance guitar

Last week I finished the carving of the rosette, well the major part of it. Next up is gluing parchment and cutting the refined details for the rosette in the parchment. But that is for in a few weeks...

RE: Renaissance guitar

Last week, I worked on the rosette some more. I glued parchment on the back, using fish glue and cut out the details with a punch and a scalpel knife. Attachment : 493F91F6-D082-4708-BEEE-219B7F75...

RE: New build

My experience is that a lot of the finish is in the prep, and don't worry if it looks crap along the way - the intermediate stages often look a bit dodgy but it comes good in the end.

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

@nsj Loads more adjustment too, I always fit new strings on a new build. At least it helps rule the problem out if there is a problem. Another lesson learned, my setting up strings are in the bin n...

@robin Excellent, I’m pleased it easily worked out for you without having to do anything drastic. @nsj came through for you. Good call. 👍

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

Good news, the intonation is fine now. I put on a new set of 10's. Had to flatten the E & A at the bridge, the other four didn't need any adjustment. No need to move the bridge post, panic over. ...

@boo I think the only way to fix the problem is to peg the bridge holes and re drill in the correct place Yes, I fully expect to be plugging and drilling bridge holes, but I'll definitely try new s...
