Anyway, today I stopped by a friends joinery shop, he handed me some yew wood which looked interesting

Β

I took the piece on the left and trimmed it down, then I was able to fit it through my little bandsaw, turns out I can fit 165mm through it. It's an old wilmac, made in Stirling I believe

Β

Got myself a nice top

Β

Then I put the body through the thickness planer, took it down to about 30mm then finished with a handplane

Β

Later this evening I'll probably glue the top on then leave it overnight

Got a couple of bits done today, body sort of shaped, fretboard slotted, neck blank sorted and trussrod fitted. It's a spoke wheel trussrod though so I need to sort out the heel end for access.

Right, sorted the space for the spoke wheel and routed the end of the fretboard to to accomadate.

Β

And now the fretboard is glued and clamped and I got the top of the body all smooth and flat. Mainly sanding as the grain direction is just nuts for planing lol

Neck is now roughed out and done an initial radius of the fretboard, added a plate to the headstaock too, hopefully get that all shaped and to thickness in the next day or so.

Ok I'm at a bit at a standstill while this stuff cures. Fret markers are the aluminium tubing again but filled with the epoxy, can't wait til it's cure and I can sand everything flush.

Today I was able to sand back and get a look at how things were going, so far pretty good. Had to add a tiny bit more resin in a couple of spots but it's getting there.

Got the frets in yesterday and today I got on with side markers, carving the neck, volute and heel a bit and also got the neck pocket routed. I was thinking of adding a tiny angle to the heel so I could have the fretboard down at body height but I can see that going pear shaped so left it lol

Got some routing done today, just the control cavity then it's drill the wire holes. Hopefully when it comes time to string up it all looks good!

Carves sorted, frets levelled and polished, fretboard oiled and now the body has finish applied. Next will be to mask up around the pocket and glue the neck in, then mask the body and get finish on the neck.

Glued the neck in today then this evening I thought I'd check how it all looks. Well that's a relief!

Β

Now onto more finishing.

Gone and split the body!

Maybe a weak bit in the grain, but better splitting now than later.
