@clinton Ebony doesn’t usually respond well to normal planes as it chips and tears very easily. Sanding or scrapers/scraper planes which have a vertical blade are usually needed. Although it’s a hard dense wood chips can break off very easily… Read more»

@tv1010101 I would agree with the other comment, hissing sounds like a capacitor failure. Large value capacitors have an electrolyte which could be overheating and boiling. If it’s a coupling capacitor between two stages it might explain the power loss. … Read more»
