Not to mention the number of normal tools that the price is increased on just by putting the word “luthier” in front of the name 🤔 Yeah @tej. It’s good to shop around in the general woodworking tool suppliers. 🎶🎸😕🙏

@tej Also a press isn’t necessarily faster, but it’s definitely more expensive. A small arbor press doesn’t cost a ton (swidt) but it’s more than a hammer plus you need the caul and at least one fret press insert. Then,… Read more»

@tej I agree with @tv101 about the bad quality of cheap guitar kits. It’s only when I started building guitars from scratch that I really noticed how inaccurate parts of the cheap kits were. Surely it’s not beyond the wit… Read more»

@tej Drilling out existing holes to make them fit a commercially available dowel can be very tricky as the point of of the drill is starting in fresh air, which means it will wander and give you an oval instead… Read more»

@tej like Mat says and Mark suggests, make a master then a copy from that so if and when you hack into it you have a backup master. @mattbeels you know me and my bandsaw / router skills, it’s a… Read more»

I’m gonna need more MDF!
Yup @tej. Just like tools, we always need more!

@tej
I’m assuming that he made a working template from the master. You should always make a copy and use that and keep the master for making more when your template either gets worn or bungled. -

Tele – that makes it easier @Tej! How many screw holes fix the bridge to the body? Some are 3, some 5, some 6. I’d get the neck fixed in place, then draw lines from the outside edges of the… Read more»

By the way, is anyone else able to use the edit function for their posts, it doesn’t seem to work for me? @Tej – don’t mention the Edit non-function … 🤐 If it’s a kit guitar, then I’m guessing that… Read more»

@Tej I think the general rule for s/h kit is “older is better”. More modern tools are made down to a price (apart from those brands that can charge the price for maintaining quality) because so many of us want… Read more»

@tej
Dowels should be a tight fit, but they need flutes or grooves along the side or the glue will not be able to squeeze out and it will form a vacuum -
Boo replied to the topic "Moving the bridge but only a little" – 4 years ago
Is there any need to glue towels in or just make them tight fitting for this kind of thing?
Glue them in @tej 👍

Russ replied to the topic "Moving the bridge but only a little" – 4 years ago
I’d use glue @tej. Then you’ll know it will be strong enough and won’t shift.
