I’m casually designing a logostyle on the laptop, and I decided to print it out to get a sense of scale.
But whilst most of the lettering looks feasible, it has dawned on me that I’ve got a dot above the ‘i’ which is 2mm square. I don’t think I’m going to get a Dremel bit in there.
Is this the situation where I would rout a big hole and then flood it with black superglue, or cut very carefully with a craft knife or scalpel? Or cut one slot and then flood the gap between the dot and the stem?
Or is it time to change the spelling of my name?

I would just change the square dot to a round one and use an ordinary drill bit. If you are cutting the inlay from MoP a ready made dot is an easy fit. Cut all the letters as individuals rather than one piece as it will be much easier if you make a mistake. If it's one piece you would need to start the whole think again.

@rocknroller912 The dot works. 🙂
I was considering getting the logotype cut by smallwondermusic.co.uk but that kinda depends how much it’s going to cost.

That’s a great looking logo, nice job!
Have you tried to giving it a little slant, just for a little flow? It looks really good but to my eye is just a bit straight. Just a thought...
I think you’ll have a much easier time with a decal but of course, inlay looks a lot better. Very professional.
But man, I don’t envy the amount of work you’ll have to do but if you’re capable, then good for you!
What I do envy is the good sounding last name=easy brand name.
I’ve been trying for quite some time to come up with a satisfactory brand name to no avail... If I think of something killer then it’s already taken 🤬

why doesn’t the 🤬 edit button work?!?
@mattbeels Oh, forgot to tell you, the edit button doesn’t work.

yeah I thought of that, so far it hasn’t really been necessary but when I catch a typo after posting my ocd tends to kick in a bit
@mattbeels Yeah me too. It’s seriously irritating isn’t it?

@mattbeels Do you mean like an oblique style where the stems lean right about 10-12deg, or just tilt it all to match the angle of the headstock top edge?
I’m just riffing on a font based on the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, who designed the Glasgow School of Art - that’s the one that burned down twice in a row.
I was looking for something that played around with the two esses and avoided *gulp* SS!

Hi James

I like the Mackintosh style, that looks good. Maybe you should consider reshaping the end of your headstock to match it with straight edges instead of curves.
@jamesbisset I think whatever you go for, it should be design unto itself, not dependent on the shape of the headstock. You will probably be making many guitars so it should be something you can apply to a range of headstock shapes. It’s so difficult to come up with a logo design and/or with a name. If you are using your name then that is half the job I suppose. Have you thought of a different angle, use your initials maybe? JB

I like the Mackintosh style font it's very distinctive and needs to be vertical and not slanted to fit in with the Mackintosh theme. I wonder if there are any other aspects of Mackintosh design that you could put into the guitar.

@rocknroller912 You and me both. Research is ongoing...

Yes, oblique/italic whatever it’s called idk I fell asleep in typography class 😄
Don’t get me wrong, the logo looks great but to my eye things tend to look better a bit slanted. It gives it that pizazz ya know, the ‘ol snap on the snare.
I’m not familiar with that style so in order to stay true is sounds like it should remain straight like @rocknroller12 said.
But like @boo said, giving the logo a solid, unified font that works on all headstock shapes that you’d like to use is probably best.
If you’re happy with it now, then you’re done!
Cheers!

Mackintosh is a particular style of 19th Century Scottish art and architecture, difficult to put into a guitar style. It's character is straight lines and right angles
