Hi,
The process of fretting is normally after to glue the fretboard to the neck, isn't it ?
Is it possible to make fretting before to glue ?
For an example:
- if fretting go wrong, you could remake the fretboard only and not all the process of making fretboard -> glue to the neck -> carve the neck -> fretting
Thanks, best regards.
@mario Hi Mario, it is normal procedure to glue the fretboard to the neck before putting the frets in. It is possible to put frets in before gluing the fretboard to the neck but it’s not advisable, it can create more problems.
It is highly unlikely that you would damage the fretboard if you made a mistake putting the frets in. If you made a mistake putting the frets in, you can just remove the frets and put some more in. If you do the frets wrong, you don’t need to remove the fretboard.
Just make your neck with fretboard (and truss rod) and put your frets in, trust me, it will be fine. 👍
If you want more advice, come back here to ask your questions.
Good luck. 👍

Hi @mario,
if you put the frets in first the fret board will bend….a lot! Whilst not impossible, it would make positioning the fretboard accurately and then clamping it in position an absolute nightmare. Seriously, banging the frets in is pretty straight forward so don’t worry about it.
