Installing frets in loose fretboard

Has anyone tried installing frets into a fretboard before itโ€™s attached to the neck? Would it just bow the fretboard backwards?

Hi Steve, I've never done it but I have thought about it. Given that Stewmac sell their Fret Arbor Press with a picture of that very process suggests that it can be done

I imagine that even if the fretboard does bow slightly it will glue flat onto the neck when you apply the clamping pressure.ย
