Thanks @markbailey. I have not carved the braces. Will carve them the day I'm ready to glue it on. I will keep the clamps on it though to help prevent as much movement as I can. 🙂
Hey @darrenking. I just wanted to let you know I am really impressed with the slot cutting jig. The quality is very impressive. Can't wait to start making my own fretboards. Great design, and being a hand tool enthusiast, it is catering to that side of my head too. Very happy customer. Well done. 🙂
Well.... got some progress done this weekend. Home made rosette done, sound hole cut out, all braces done and glued. All shaped except the x-braces. Will get those carved when the sides are done. On to the side and the fun that is bending. 🙂
Just catching on this thread.
Looks like some good progress there, and a definitely-guitar shaped instrument is emerging from the pieces.
Your thread title caught my eye ... "(wife's guitar)". I started thinking that, if only I could persuade my wife that half of my guitars are hers, then I'd not have the problem of too-many-guitars.
👍
But then I realised she'd probably give away her half of them.

Very neat job
Some people call me a tool, others are less complimentary. Tools being useful things.
Looking good @bpower.
Just a question, and this isn't aimed at you particularly bpower, but why, when all the other braces and the bridge reinforcement plate have to abut the cross braces, are the cross braces bonded on last? This would just seem to present multiple opportunities for things not to line up perfectly.
Cheers
Darren
@darrenking .... someone with a little more knowledge may have to answer this one. I'm still new enough that I did it that way because Mark on the video says so. I understand what you are saying though. There are two spots that are not perfect. Not sure anyone would ever know but I know they are there. They just slipped a fraction while gluing and I didn't notice it. And I mean like less than half a hair but.....aagggggg!!!! 🙂
Ive recently watched the video on this and I think that Mark said its because the other braces are flexible enough to take the curve although they are glued on flat and once the top is curved the flat ones won’t glue on.
Im making a practice one at the moment but haven’t posted anything yet so this is the way I’m doing it, curved last. Usually violins and other carved tops are my thing so pushing the boat out.

Just realized it has been a while since I gave an update on my guitar build. After vacation and some distractions here is where I am. First off... as you can see from the pic cutting the side, I found another great use for the bagpress packaging @darrenking. 🙂 I also put a pic of my low tech bending machine. It works pretty well and this one came out way better than my first build. Then... the heel block... can anyone see what I forgot to do before gluing? At least it was an easy thing to fix. 🙂 There is always something that doesn't go exactly to plan. :). And then finally... what do you do when your friend is a welder and he owes you a favor??? you tell him what a truss rod is and he makes if for you. It is really coming along now.
Here are a few more progression pictures of my wifes guitar. I think next time I'm going to handle the arm bevel a little differently but, overall I'm pretty pleased with it. Not perfect by any means but I like it. 🙂
on to the finish work now. 🙂
Post #2 and final post for this build. 🙂
I was just talking to my wife about how it has only been less than a year and I have now completed my second acoustic guitar build. And, in my opinion, this second build it way better than my first. Everything fits better. Everything set up better. Action is better. Overall I think it is just a much better guitar...... and it is not even for me...... happy wife happy life 🙂 I guess that means I need to start a new one. Well.... nothing left but to post a few pics of the finished guitar.
I can not express how thankful I am for finding this guitar making community. I would not have been able to get the courage to do this without this group. And @markbailey Carol, and the rest of the crew, I can not thank you enough.
