After making a number of basses of my own design I decided to make some basses of a more classical design.

The first one was this Jazz bass. But I wanted to give it a personal twist. So instead of a classic Fender style bridge I fitted a single string bass bridge and used a laminated neck blank and a flamed maple top. The laminated neck is maple-ebony veneer-pear-ebony veneer-maple. My wood supplier is a guy who makes beautiful laminated neck blanks and likes to experiment with the woods he uses for them. So he thought it was a nice and unconventional idea to use pear wood for this neck blank. I think this is probably the only bass in the wordt with pear wood in it.

Here i am a couple of years ago in his factory hall ready to help him plane a couple of neck blanks I bought from him. The one with the pear in it is the one on the left. And of course I was wearing the proper t-shirt.

The pickups are DiMarzio Ultra Jazz.

 I sold this one.

But @deej would have been your friend

?

Beautiful work as ever Marcel.  That maple top looks superb.  What was pear wood like to work with?

Thanks, the pear wood was actually quite easy to work with.
