It doesn't have to be a full body carve, you could do a small "shelf" around the edge?

🤔

Here's something else that I tried as an experiment on a recent build ...

@tv101 Excellent work TV, I think it looks superb. I love your idea of using the round over bit to leave that shelf around the perimeter. Top job sir! And, I love the contrasting, wooden scratch plate. 👍

Cheers @koendb.

And, I love the contrasting, wooden scratch plate. 👍

No nasty black plastic here @Boo!  That was some offcut from the body, thicknessed (or thinned) down to around 3mm, jointed and then stained.

What the pic doesn't show is the solid RW neck ... That is a wonderful thing to hold!

@tv101

That looks sweet! There’s something about that Rosewood neck, it seems decadent somehow but I really like it. I also like the look of a Wenge neck, must be the dark color that’s so appealing.

@tv101 Yeah I love your choices of woods on this build, I think it really does look superb.

I agree with @mattbeels here too that there is something about a dark wood neck that is so appealing, I think this rosewood is jaw dropping. I want something like this to put my pale moon ebony fretboard on, it will be an amazing contrast.

You are inspiring me TV. 👍

RE Set Neck build:

Waiting for Ebony fretboard blanks and advice on using 1" Neck blank.

Meanwhile - I'm chuffed with progress on semi-hollow Telecaster style geetah.

Applied the mahogany back today. Will trim and sand tomorrow,  then seal prior to clear coating.

External routing guides finished

20210404 200134

 Do you guys use pre-made guide for Neck pocket or use straight edges and stops?

@eddie6string

I would probably recommend the latter. It’s obviously a bit more work to set it up but the results are more accurate.

What material are you planning on using for the inlays Eddie?
