Mark (and others)

I have been watching your tutorials for ages now. It inspired me to buy a pre cut fret board (July 2020) and attempt my third guitar build in 40 years.......bit of a delay from number 2 to this one......and I needed to get a band saw!

I had some hard wood that I recycled from dismantling part of our deck (a four inch post  for the neck and a length of balustrade for the body), so set about fitting a guitar into the amount of wood I had.

I fancied a Les Paul style but due to wood size after binding four bits of balustrade together for the body it had to be approx 10% smaller .....hence Mini Paul.

Your tutorials were brilliant and with my improved tools bought over time I thought this might actually work. I kept making notes of your measurements, tips and techniques about jigs etc ......and manged to produce this.

Not sparkling, there are mistakes, but it works and sounds pretty good. Never bonded wood before and in view of its condition and a bit of twisting, not the easiest or the best of joins in places.... probably adds to character as they say.

A very old set of Di Marzio pick ups from my brother in laws dismantled guitar and your suggested bridge style.

Danish oil finish, as surface finish not pristine enough for any fancy spraying.....maybe next time.

Keep up the good work, while I ponder my next project.

Cheers @andy-halliday. Looking good. Isn't it amazing what you can build a guitar out of?

@andy-halliday This is such a cool build, I love the fact that you just made it a bit smaller because you had a limited amount of wood. Well done mate, it looks great. 👍

@andy-halliday

Looks pretty cool, I hope the cracks in the headstock aren’t serious! 😬

So it’s a regular scale length then, just a bit smaller on the body and headstock?

Almost like a travel guitar 👍

Practice on scrap...

Good job I like the design

Some people call me a tool, others are less complimentary. Tools being useful things.

Yes there is a hair line crack, which I think is only skin deep as they say....I hope so anyway....we''ll soon find out.

....and yes body size reduced, as well as headstock slightly - wood limitation width.

It seems to have a warmer and thicker sound......which I guess must be predominantly wood related.

I always thought that the "traditional" LP shape is way too big anyway.

😋
