So I’m finally building the guitar I originally designed when going through the Design Your Own Electric Guitar course.
Mahogany body 47mm thick (I know, a tad thick but it’s getting some of those sexy Strat carvings with a 3/4” round over on the edges of the back.
I’ve already started working on the body and have it cut, shaped, arm carve on the front and veneer glued onto the top. Still need to rabbet the edge for binding though.
Havent started the neck but have some blanks almost ready. They still need to be run through a planer and squared up on all sides before I can start on the neck.
I have a preslotted flamed laurel fretboard and will be putting a 12” radius on that with a 42mm hand-made bone nut. Yessir, I’m making my own nuts now too! (I can’t wait to read the comments on that sentence 🤣😂🤣😂)
You may remember when I originally posted this design it also had a headstock shape that matched the body shape. I still plan to create that headstock shape. Hope it works out.
Here are the first pictures as this design begins to come to life.
@liebe I like creating my own designs instead of making copies of all the generic guitars on the market. It’s a lot more fun and keeps things way more interesting. Plus when someone wants you to make a copy of your own design…, well that just makes the chest puff out a little bit more. 😁
Here’s some pics of the progress thus far.
@brie thanks dude. not finished carving yet though. Still have the neck joint area to finish off. Since my 2nd build all have had blended neck joints so there’s no step from neck to body. That part will be completed today. Time to start thinking about the finish.
