Today I finished my first build from scratch. I took a long time because I wanted to do this the right way, with the right tools and techniques. Prior to this I had made several partscasters and I wind my own pickups. This has been such an incredible journey that I never wanna get off. I wanna build these things for the rest of my life… ok mushy stuff done..
This is a LPJ style. Started with a kit from the Bailey shop. I had a fair share of challenges. For one, inside the neck blank were these small voids or cavities. Idk if it’s a spot a bug burrowed down or what, but I had to do a lot of filling with sawdust and glue. On top of that I had the normal mistakes a novice woodworker would have. That’s why I ended up with a solid color (to hide the mistakes)…. I did a nitro finish and I followed the tutorials from the driftwood guys on stewmacs page. However I botched the grain fill so the finish isn’t great. Good news is I’m gonna make many more… I decided I wanted to wind a p90 cuz I had never made one before, and boy oh boy am I hooked on those things now. Such a cool design and great sound. I put a kill switch in between the volume pots because I always liked kill switches on guitars.
This has been such an incredible experience. Thank you Mark, and Carole, and all the folks in the comments section that helped me so much along the way. I’m gonna stay with y’all as long as I can still build guitars, and I hope that I can become one of the helpful members showing up in a comments section to save the day.
love you guys,
Chris
Excellent work Chris. Fantastic first build. Nice little headstock inlay and I do like the all black look.
Onwards and Upwards.

Nice build! especially as it is your first! You cant go wrong with a P90, and your logo is very elegant . Up to the next one.
