@Rocknroller912ย

Good fix on the thin cover, it sounds like you are really getting the hang of guitar making and learning how to fix problems as you go along.

Thanks, I've not been short of problems to learn from.

Looks good from here @robin!

Figuring out how to fix mistakes and working through problems is the best way to learn, keep it up as youโ€™re doing great!

Practice on scrap...

Belly carve done yesterday. There was a tiny flaw in the body blank and I'd positioned the body shape on the blank so that I would remove this little blemish with the belly carve, or so I thought. The deeper I carved, the bigger the hole got, it's like a little round tunnel into the wood, I'm wishing now that I'd just filled the small blemish an stayed clear of it.

ย The curve of the belly carve doesn't look very even, it is but the curl of the grain makes it look odd.

A bit more carving this morning. I gave my dad's old Stanley plane a good sharpen, it cut through the ash body so easily.

I had to take off a bit more than I had intended, due to my first saw cut going a tad too deep.

Rubbish @Robin - you've carved an easy-access neck joint heel there - great design improvement ...

Simple temporary jig but effective.ย
It will wear out eventually. Just simply make another. Just make scraps are square to start.

Ingenuity 👍ย

I've also got a set of reamers on order for my dremel.

@Robin - have you got a link to that?

(Sorry for all the individual posts btw - I'm catching up on your thread, and posting replies as I get to something that grabs my attention!)

Gets top marks from me.ย  Anyone who takes the time and trouble to make the back look good like that gets my vote.ย  I *hate* using cheap bits of black plastic as cavity covers!!

Been there, done that!

Best thing is probably to mix up a little sawdust and glue, and fill the hole.ย  It'll disappear.

have you got a link to that?

I got them on ebay, I can't see them on there any more, I'll have another look later. I can't vouch for their quality, I never actually got around to using them.

Here a link to same thing on ebay but from a different seller. They're listed as wood carving bits. This set has the 3mm shank, there are others listed with bigger shanks.

Try these. They took a while to arrive but for 10 solid carbide burrs for less than a tenner its difficult to be anything other than happy. Iโ€™ve bought other cutters and drill bits from Ya Tools and all have been very good quality.
